Group Homes

Since 1977, clients have lived in clean, pleasant and family-like group homes on the Key Center campus in Lecanto. Group home residents possess basic self-care skills, maintain acceptable social and behavior habits and maintain generally good health.

Group homes serve from 5 to 11 residents. No more than two residents share a bedroom. Many clients have their own room.

A resident house manager assumes day-to-day responsibilities for the home and assists with the care, treatment, and training of clients. Not only a friend, counselor and helper, the resident house manager serves as an important advocate for each Key Center client.

Residents eat well-balanced meals, receive medical and dental care as needed and enjoy life with stimulating recreation and leisure time activities. Worship opportunities are provided to everyone.

Campus group homes include the: 10-bed Franklin Cottage, 1977; 11-bed Spooner Cottage, 1980; 5-bed Burnes Cottage, 1987; 10-bed Simons Cottage, 1987; 9-bed Davis Cottage, 1989; and 6-bed Contento Cottage, 2005.
Spooner & Contento Cottage

Licensed as specialized, long-term residential care facilities, Spooner and Contento Cottages were built on campus to provide around-the-clock life-sustaining care to medically fragile and physically handicapped clients. These clients require assistance to eat, bathe, toilet, groom and dress.

All Spooner & Contento Cottage residents have limited mobility. Most are confined to wheelchairs. Many experience seizures and other ailments associated with aging. Home health care services are provided to clients with acute medical conditions. Contento Cottage is equipped with assistive devices that enable the residents to move more independently within their own bedrooms.

With help from Key Center staff, Spooner and Contento Cottage residents enjoy community life when they attend church, dine in restaurants, go to the movies, and participate in other social events.

Additional group homes were built in Inverness during the early 1990’s to meet the growing demand for Key Center housing.

Using U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) loans, two 6-bed homes, Key Light #1 and Key Light #2 were built in 1990. Two additional HUD 6-bed group homes, Key Center #1 and Key Center #2 were built in Inverness during 1993.

Other homes in the community, Allen House, Pellgrin House, and Whitton House, were either purchased or donated and are being utilized as additional group homes.
