Lunch Buddy
We all look forward to lunch time when we are at work or school. It is a time of relaxation and friendly conversation. But, meal time can be a challenge when the cafeteria is half a block away and you have difficulty moving, use a walker, or are confined to a wheelchair. It is even more difficult when you need help to eat. Make lunch an enjoyable experience for those who need assistance with simple tasks like eating.
Successful volunteers are caring, compassionate, nonjudgmental, have a sense of humor and a love of life. Volunteers must have the physical ability walk a short distance and possibly to push a wheelchair a short distance and up a slight grade.
Activities:
* Assist your buddy as they move from classroom or workshop to the cafeteria.
* Assist your buddy with food as needed.
* Converse with your buddy during meal.
* Eat with your buddy if you wish.
Requirements:
* Extensive background screening
* Time required 1 to 2 hours weekly
* Time frame 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. weekdays
* Attend orientation and training
* TB Test
